C: Creative

Do you consider yourself to be a creative person? Many people do not. I often hear the word “creative” used to describe eccentric people or very talented folks: people who are not typical or normal. But, I believe we are made to be creative.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1:27

We were created in God’s own image. And God is THE Creator. If we are in His image, should we not be creative by nature?

The dictionary defines creative as:

  • Having the ability to create.
  • Characterized by originality of thought; having or showing imagination: a creative mind.
  • Designed or tending to stimulate the imagination: creative toys.

I’ve always considered myself a creative person. When I was young, I wrote fictional stories and poems. I enjoyed coloring and drawing (still do!), and making treats in my Easy Bake Oven. As an adult, I still enjoy writing – though I now prefer the nonfiction genre, creating forts with my kids, coloring and drawing, and experimenting with recipes.

Every person has creative potential, and nearly every job and career has some form of creative outlet or possibility within it.

What do you think? Are you creative?

  1. Nice post. I never used to think I was creative yet people around me thought I was!
So agree - we all are creative in some way or other.

  2. I definitely consider myself creative. And I agree with you, everybody is, you just need to take the time to find that creative spark in you, it's there for sure!

  3. I'm probably a little too practical to be creative but I think that is also a side of God. After all, as creative as he is in making us and the world we live in, he was also very practical about how he did it.

  5. If there is One Creator, it follows that everyone has potential to create! It is sad that so many shirk this amazing potential; following and repeating, rather than originating. Great post!

  6. I have always equated creative with imaginative, but I think I am creative, just not very imaginative. Maybe I should re-think my definition. I do "create" a lot of things--mostly with paper, but occasionally with other things.

  7. I would probably be considered creative, as is my daughter. My boys, not so much. Despite all the things I have done to encourage their creative side, they struggle. They are much happier following rules and directions. They are only creative when pushed, encouraged, and given the starting idea by my daughter or me.
